Correspondence, diplomas, certificates, and other papers relating to Horger's medical education and his association with American Psychiatric Association; correspondence, biographical data, and typescripts of his articles, including "Mental Disorders and Their Relationships to Crime" (ca. 1925), "Religious Delusions" (1926), "A Comparative Study of the Whites and Negroes Admitted to the South Carolina State Hospital from 1916-1927, Inclusive" (ca. 1927), "Does Religion Cause Insanity?" (1931), and "The Church in Lean Years" (1932), relating to his career in the field of psychiatry, his activities as clinical director of South Carolina State Hospital, as president of Columbia Medical Society, and his work with South Carolina Synod of the Lutheran Church in America. Includes letters of tribute, newspaper clippings, and other papers, including Dr. William S. Hall's "Eugene Leroy Horger ... Pioneer in Treatment Versus Custody for the Mentally Ill" (1977), concerning Horger's work and the dedication of the Horger Library at the State Hospital. Also includes correspondence and notes re the Horger family of Orangeburg County and the allied Bremer and Cronenberg families, including a genealogy of the descendants of John Miller Horger and Sarah Ann Penelope Blount Horger.
